In today’s social media run society, we are flooded with fitness accounts pushing so much noise I can BARELY THINK. From insane workout challenges, to revolving diet cleanses, pilates vs. powerlifting, “Winter Arc”, and SO.MUCH.MORE. How is it possible to do it all? What happened to Keeping It Simple? How am I supposed to have Kim Ks plump buns, while also fitting into my fashion icons dream body type? SINCE WHEN IS EVERYONE RUNNING MARATHONS? What brand of water bottle are we buying this month? Is Dairy Back? Are yall REALLY consuming sea moss gel every morning?
Who can keep up, and honestly who can afford it?
When there is a constant flow of information being thrown into our faces, it is incredibly hard to pick a lifestyle and genuinely be able to stick to it. Before we know it the protein diet will be out and that full rotation will cycle back again. What now? Are we going low-fat, low carb, sugar free again? Or should we strictly stick to grass fed bison doused in beef tallow and drizzled with raw honey?
The diet trends are killing me, so I am here to enforce KEEPING IT SIMPLE.
The classic: “Trio Plate”
Protein- Most Importantly, It’ll satiate your appetite for longer and give you long lasting energy.
Veggies- Volume, Volume, Volume. I’m not necessarily talking salads alright, I am referring to a nutrient dense stir fry, steemed, baked, whatever you please.
Carbs- This will fully depend on your goals, your activity level, and more. In my case, I am in the gym 4-5 days a week and attempting to run on off days, so those extra calories are definitely a must, depending on my hunger levels.
I find that when I fill my plate with veggies and protein, I get full on all the right things and I feel less need to hit the pantry throughout the day.( which personally, is the goal). By playing around with different meal prep combinations, we are able to take note of what fulfills those hunger needs. The MANAGEABLE long term lifestyle change starts to feel possible, once we begin to understand what our body’s require on the daily. The truth is we all have different appetites, work different jobs, and are in different environments. Putting a label on how much of each category we should be eating is hard, so it really is an individual journey. With that please share requests or specifics here!
I am here to EMPHASIZE that the Trio Plate IS NOT what I strictly eat 24/7! It is simply for weekday craziness, to help make those meal decisions easier. Balance is incredibly important and I do not believe in restrictive diet culture for long term effects. My goal is to share healthy habits for building the most fulfilling lifestyle you can make for yourself. WIth that, enjoy dinners out, get that saturday brunch, enjoy those thursday night margaritas. Its is all in moderation.
80/20 RULE
Ever Heard of it? The idea is sticking to the “smarter” health decisions 80% of the time, and the other 20% is for all the things that bring you joy that you may decide to cut back on more often. The Rotating diet cycle that most people go through is because of the inability to keep it balanced. Does “ALL IN” or ” I’ll start next month” sound familiar? It does not have to be that way! The 80/20 lifestyle helps you feel good in all the prime health choices, without torching yourself with being restrictive. With that, it is important to be intuitive with these decisions. This doesn’t necessarily mean kill yourself on the weekdays and go crazy on the weekends, results will be difficult to see if this is the case.
The KEY is being aware of what cravings are important enough to enjoy, without the restrictive thinking guilt. For me, I have been able to learn to make swaps for sweet treats because I do crave them everyday. Now I enjoy delicious chocolate strawberry yogurt bowls, so I associate my consistent dessert with that. BUT if I am out at a dinner or a birthday party, I will definitely be eating that dessert, do you understand what I am getting at.
I know there is so much information out there, but I am here to remind you it really is just Keeping It Simple. Like sticking to balanced meals such as the Trio Plate and adopting the 80/20 rule— you can cut through the chaos and create a sustainable lifestyle that works for your individual needs. It’s not about following every trend or adhering to strict, restrictive diets. It’s about finding what makes you feel good, fueling your body with the right nutrients, and enjoying life without guilt or extremes. I love that you focus on keeping it simple, genuinely nutritious, and leaving room for a bit of fun! This is such a critical perspective to have, so we don’t get lost in the noise!
